Nestled along the rugged Pacific Northwest coastline lies a treasure trove of natural wonders waiting to be explored: the Oregon Coast. A few times a year I visit when I feel the need to reconnect to nature and ground, and this comprehensive list helps discover the hidden gems and wellness havens that make the Oregon Coast a destination like no other.

Begin your day enveloped in the mystical ambiance of the Oregon Coast’s misty mornings. As the sun rises over the horizon, casting its golden rays through the fog, bundle up with an extra layer as you stroll along the beach. As you breathe in the crisp ocean air, allow yourself to be fully present in the moment, attuned to the sights and sounds of the coastal wilderness.
Tidepool Treasures
As the tide recedes, it unveils a hidden world of wonder along the rocky shores of the Oregon Coast. Venture to Haystack Rock, a towering monolith surrounded by vibrant tidepools teeming with life. Take a moment to marvel at the intricate ecosystem thriving beneath the surface, from colorful sea stars to delicate anemones. Engage your senses as you explore this underwater oasis, feeling the cool touch of seawater on your skin and listening to the rhythmic lullaby of the waves. From May-August you may also find puffins flying on and off the grassy side of Haystack rock. They are very skiddish though, this trip they had been startled by a bald eagle and had burrowed in for the day.
Food Scene
After your morning walk, you can find great options for coffee, baked goods and seafood right around the area.
Sea Level coffee and baked goods is my personal favorite, just a bit south of downtown and walkable from my hotel (Tolovana Inn). Sleepy Monk is also fantastic (the coffee is great, the baked goods not quite as good) but usually has an incredibly long line and is not dog friendly. Others have mentioned Insomnia coffee which is high up on my list to try next time.
For lunch and dinner, consider seafood options including fish and chips, chowder, fish sandwiches. Depending where you’re staying you may want to consider Ecola Seafood or Mo’s which is right on the beach and offers an incredible view.
Oregon Coast Beaches
In the afternoon, retreat to the pristine shores of the Oregon Coast for a day of beachside bliss. Find solace in the soft sands near Haystack Rock, where you can lounge beneath the warm sun and immerse yourself in the gentle rhythm of the waves. As the day unfolds, take time to engage in mindful activities such as beachcombing, or simply gazing out at the vast expanse of the ocean. For a truly grounding experience, kick off your shoes and feel the earth beneath your feet, allowing yourself to connect with the natural energy of the land. Whether you’re savoring a quiet moment of solitude or sharing laughter with loved ones, the beaches of the Oregon Coast offer the perfect sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation.
Further south, Oceanside offers a wonderful and more quiet beach. If you visit during low tide you will enjoy the cave connecting the main beach to a small, isolated beach. The waves on that side can be intense and powerful, be extra cautious.
Nature’s Playground

Embark on a scenic hike through ancient forests, where towering spruce and fir trees create a canopy overhead. For an added dose of wellness, consider practicing forest bathing, a Japanese healing tradition that involves immersing oneself in the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest to promote relaxation and stress relief.
Embark on a journey of discovery in Ecola Beach State Park with incredible views down to Cannon Beach and out to a lighthouse. Traverse the park’s network of hiking trails, each offering panoramic views of the coastline and opportunities for quiet contemplation amidst nature’s splendor. Indian Beach offers surfing and relaxing for everyone.
Hug Point is an incredible beach in Arch Cape, driving from Cannon Beach to Oswald State Park West. In about a 10 minute walk from the parking lot, you can stay right on the beach to then discover a full waterfall streaming into the ocean. The cliffs, trees and caves inspired me this time to sit and paint for a bit.
